About
Leead Shamir is a contemporary painter and mixed media artist born in 1969 in Ashkelon, Israel — creating bold, joyful canvases that celebrate the richness and diversity of human culture.
Drawing inspiration from the natural harmony of the desert and the sea, and shaped by legends and folklore encountered during extensive travels, she weaves symbols and organic shapes into distinctive, layered paintings. Shamir has been painting all her life, trained in fine art, and has shown work with galleries across Israel, the UK, and the United States.
Her process begins with abstract spots and gestures — allowing images to emerge from the canvas, then developing them into figures, animals, and mythic forms. She describes her work as a direct expression of her personality: embracing imperfection, expressive brushwork, and playful composition. Influenced by Modernism, African Art, and the uninhibited creativity of children, her paintings are raw, moving, and authentically human.
Her solo exhibitions include A Breath of Air (2013) and Open Ends (2016) at Stern Gallery, Tel Aviv. Her work is represented by Bruno Art Group in Israel and Asia, Clarendon Fine Art in the UK and US, and is held in private collections worldwide.
